Ingredients
For the Beef and Noodles:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 2 packs (3 oz each) ramen noodles (discard seasoning packets)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, if needed)
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup carrots, julienned or shredded
- 1/2 cup bell peppers, thinly sliced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1/4 cup green onions, chopped (optional for garnish)
- 2 cups beef broth or water
For the Sauce:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
Instructions
1. Cook the Beef:
- In a large pot or deep skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat (if using).
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon (about 5-7 minutes).
- Once fully cooked, drain excess fat if necessary and set the beef aside on a plate.
2. Sauté Vegetables:
- In the same pot, add onions and garlic. Sauté until softened and fragrant (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add carrots, bell peppers, and broccoli florets, and cook for another 4-5 minutes until vegetables are tender but still crisp.
3. Prepare the Sauce:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using).
4. Add the Noodles and Beef:
- Pour beef broth (or water) into the pot and bring it to a simmer.
- Add the ramen noodles (break them up if needed to fit in the pot) and return the browned beef to the pot.
- Stir to combine, allowing the noodles to cook in the broth for about 3-5 minutes, until softened and cooked through.
5. Stir in the Sauce:
- Pour the prepared sauce into the pot and toss everything together until the noodles, beef, and vegetables are evenly coated with the sauce.
- Continue cooking for 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
6. Garnish and Serve:
- Remove the pot from heat and garnish with chopped green onions (optional).
- Serve hot, and enjoy!
Tips
- Vegetable Substitutes: Feel free to swap out the vegetables for your favorites, such as snap peas, spinach, or zucchini.
- Customize the Noodles: For a heartier meal, try adding more protein like scrambled eggs or tofu.
- Sauce Adjustments: Adjust the sweetness or saltiness of the sauce to your preference by tweaking the soy sauce or brown sugar levels.
